What is the “Outstanding Student Chapter Award”?
This award recognizes the exemplary efforts of the TAMU-SPE Student Chapter in industry engagement, operations and planning, community outreach, professional development, and innovation. This award is the highest possible honor that a student chapter can receive. The award is only given to one student chapter per region, per year, requiring a highly selective judgement criteria. In order to be considered for this award, the student chapter must keep records of all the activities throughout the year, then combine them into an annual report and submit it for review. Each chapter report is meticulously reviewed by a group of professional SPE members, and points are awarded accordingly. Based on the final scores of each report, the winner of the Outstanding Student Chapter Award is selected.
Previous history with the award
TAMU-SPE Student Chapter has a great legacy of receiving the Outstanding Student Chapter Award. In fact, since 1995, we have been honored this distinction ten times, most recently in 2012. The praise does not stop there, however, as the Texas A&M branch campus in Qatar has also received this award for their region for 2014-2105. This recognition shows that Texas A&M’s commitment to petroleum engineering really does span the whole globe! As we look forward, we have high hopes that our reputation as an outstanding student chapter will continue in the years to come. For now, officers hope to achieve this goal by perfecting communication to members, encouraging student participation, promoting industry involvement, and planning professional and educational events that will help TAMU-SPE members advance in their academic and professional careers.
