What is The Well Log ?
The Well Log is a student-run SPE Journal within the Petroleum Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. The journal was created this past fall and has been able to successfully publish 2 issues. These publications feature a compilation of review articles, original research, interviews with distinguished professors, and other unique content pieces.
What is TAMU SPE?
The Texas A&M Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is the largest individual-member organization on campus and is the second largest student chapter in the world. SPE offers students an unique ability to contribute to the profession through its programs and activities, while providing them with the opportunity to learn about the industry as well. What to do we Do?
The purpose of The Well Log is to give students an opportunity to work with a technical journal related to the oil and gas industry and to develop their writing and professional skills. Since the journal is entirely student-run, a team of undergraduate and graduate students do all the readings, selection, editing, designing, and the final publishing and promoting.
The Well Log has decided to move to an online format because it is not only more financially sustainable, but it also allows greater reader accessibility to TWL. Furthermore, this format allows authors to be more involved in their own promotion, as much of the publicity is done via Facebook, personal blogs, emails, etc. We are growing as we progress and discover our needs.
